Of Numbers and happiness

Over the past 4 days, I've had 3 finals that have only added to my marginal happiness only in the sense that its over. 1.5hrs ago, Christina told me she will get visitors in the form of Asilah and Dzarrin in 10hours time. 1.5hrs ago, I told her that in 12.5hrs time I will be sitting for my 4th and last exam for the 2nd last term of my life, which yet again only marginally contributes to my happiness that we are nearing the end. Interesting too that at this exact moment, in 11.5hrs time, I will be panicking like shit in the top paper I'm dreading while Asilah and Dzarrin happilly settle in London.. 8hrs away. boo. AND in 144 days time (OMG) I will be sitting for my last ever paper in my undergrad life (hopefully) which I will be most happy because perhaps in 144 or 145 or 146 or 147 days time, I MAY be back in spain. omgomgomgomgomgogmogmogmomgogm.. hahhaha.. I've already seen how much it costs to get there.. lemmegolemmegolemmego.. ironically, in 144 days time, xtina would be starting school and not able to join me in spain :(

144. thats what separates me from the sadness and shaggedness and i want to giveupness of this thing called micro and the expected utility of being back in spain & having a horrid final gpa! I'm content with 13.5hrs really for now..

Captain Cesc here to lead the wayyyy..

haha I just thought that was a very cute foto with him leading the pack and all of them so nicely decked in red and navy blue.. I must say.. I love my igoogle and rss feeds. It brings up tonnes of awesome stuff for me like this foto and the fact that I got to know about Cesc's appointment a mere 2hrs after it was announced in London. Somehow, the mods I took in Spain seem to be more value added to my life than more than half the ones i've taken at home - speaking this with only the faintest of biasness haha.

Anyway, more interesting quotes from my favorite Arseblog:
"As much as Cesc now has a responsibility to Arsenal, Arsenal has a responsibility to him."
"So, here's to Captain Fabtastic, may he develop a terrible withered elbow from lifting too many trophies. Come on Arsenal."
Let a new era begin with Fabregas at its helm.

As much as he was the likely candidate, I didn't think Wenger would pull it this fast. Even during the good times, we all knew he would eventually make captain but we would never think he'd do it at 21. He was always a little earlier than the rest. Let's hope the entire squad has his backing as all the fans do. Let this be the beginning of something great. Something LEGENDARY. He cannot singlehandedly change the team and results but with hope, he can inspire change.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to get lots of shite from non-Arsenal peeps after the man city game. It just ended and of course there is disappointment and frustration but my dad and I agreed that this is exactly what Arsenal and Arsene Wenger need to realise how far they've fallen from grace. I swear, I thought the 19yrold average carling cup lineup would have played better than this senior team. I do find it awfully suspicious that so many key players can't play when the going gets tough. Like how John Terry was too injured to play for England and Ashley Cole for Arsenal. Even so, everyone knows that Arsenal have the talent and skills to win. But today, they were not playing at that level at all. Time after time Bendtner, Song and Denilson have always shown us that they are not ready to be playing at this level. Hoyte was just a joke.. Clichy was absolutely not focused and RVP hasnt found his scoring form for Arsenal in eons. Nasri and Ramsey were really trying but there was simply no support.

And as for criticism that Fabregas is not playing well. What do you expect? What do you expect when you ship ALL yr closest friends and support off. What do you expect when you expect him to be playing with next to nothing support!? You would of course hope that he can inspire the team, but first of all. he's got to be inspired himself.

I really do hope that a massive change happens. Remove the people who are ineffective and destructive and bring in the people we need. Defenders. A STRONG midfielder. I do think we have strikers, but sadly their performances have been very volatile and very much dependent on a strong midfield. I am extremely curious as to who would will be captain after this debacle. If you remove gallas entirely from the squad, I do believe Fabregas can do the job. But as a longterm captain for the team? Fabregas still seems like a lightweight. THe problem is.. there isn't any one to choose from. The best option would most likely be Toure.

I would think they can draw inspiration from Valencia's current season. The way they've dealt with their problems with a new coach. a new start, team attitude and making sure they tell their important players they are valued. Arsenal cannot afford to lose fabregas, nasri and i might even say adebayor. Although if Arsenal doesn't deal with this situation appropriately, I would completely support their decision to leave. Then, it'll be la liga here I come...speaking of which, lets cheer up with a yummy foto of the vlc players over some press release. Marchena's looking good in tt leather jacket :) & Silva is 2 weeks away from playing in a game! Just in time after the exams!

wahlao!
my angst has been rising like a utility curve for a risk seeking individual over the past 3 days over 1 stupid qn! All the Econs Gods have been stumped by an italian and then 1 God who is taking Public Policy has enlightened me. But you know how your angst and tension rises and builds u up...n it almost always ends up being an absolutely WTF KINDA ANSWER IS THAT? this falls under that category.

looooveeee this sonng and the video!!.. totally puts u in a 'letss partyyy' mood! (even while i study)
Micro has been a constant bane in my life this semester.
& right now all that floods my brain is Cournot, Stackelberg and Bertrand. or occasionally John Nash comes haunting too. Massi's tests are notoriously student-stumping so I think I've begun to do a Maccann (ie jump for joy whenever I get a qn right..) Why am I studying for game theory! theres a reason I decided not to take it as my elective! rar!

teeheeheeSo the other day I had a pri school hari raya outing. Last night, we had a mini class gathering mainly to say goodbye to the school compound we made so many memories in. At least the school name and song (& perhaps my name on the wall) will live on at a different compound (which I guess Peixin alumni won't be too happy about.. i wonder if jennie reads my blog). After taking pictures of every nook and cranny of the sch, saying hi to friends & teachers from yesteryears, I decided to dig up old fotos & post them on facebook. oh what fun & furore ensued thereafter haha. oh how we have grown. (some of us at least haha) ahhh!! I miss those days so much! I even miss the never ending teasing I got which was a result of sitting in the middle of all the boys.. they were so funnyyy! sitting next to zhaoquan because ms chew wud make me try to keep him quiet but he was really a lot of fun to be with.. bhuvanesh & junjie in front and dingli and edmund behind! haha i still remember!!
n geez.. I've always had hair problems all my life. as well as the stupid cheesy grin haha while syuhaidah looks as poised & pretty as ever.. I guess some things are just in-built eh! n benjamin! the boy who introduced me to piano! I do miss him so!

ok i was trying to find a post where i go on gushing about spain. and i couldnt find one.. well not one that was some serious paragraphs long gushing.

Dzarrin and asilah just got back from spain.. and so i decided to revisit my travel fotos and suddenly, all the emotions came rushing back.

Picture after picture I gushed omg i love tt. omg thats so spain. omg thats so pretty. sigh. I can't decide where to go for my grad trip. US or Europe. It seems I might have kakis for either after all and so it might be down to me. How do I love thee. Let me count the ways.

1. land of la liga, the beautiful spanish game and it SERIOUSLY seems only the footballers are cute
2. land of Inditex. Heaven of all shopping heaven
3. land of valencia, my adopted kampung and fireworks and fallas city
4. land of beautiful romantic alleys
5. land of perfect weather
6. land of kukuxumusu!
7. land of buenos dias as u step into buses
8. land of the pyrenees and sierra nevada which I'm still determined to go to
9. land of chocolate churros which I'm determined to eat at the famous one once i get my feet back to madrid
10. land of dos besos and where I've left my heart in... Not to a person.. but to a buzz about it that I cannot put my finger to. I love how much they love their families. I even love their siestas.
let me return! dime volver!
sometimes, I wonder if I could just stay there forever.
A spaniard would do just nicely. :)

Obama-mania at the American Club.
Before the crying and champagne popping.

NOWAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

"Valencia compra el estreno de James Bond con dinero público"

Wednesday, November 05, 2008

long long day.

625am: woke up *damn missed the champs league matches*
730am: election countdown begins at the american club
12pm: Left club for school "obama leading at 204 votes"
1230pm: opened laptop in school "obama wins campaign"
1pm: Meeting
330pm: AE Class
730pm: Free movie screening courtesy of amcham - quantum of solace

such a shame that we didnt get to see the official declaration of obama's win. apparently, the americans at the club starting getting emotional and patriotic.. n popping champagne bottles and all. its seriously like watching a football match! well i shall wait for my picture with obama hee
as much as it was pretty much a one sided affair - even in terms of supporters at the club, I must say, I'm really impressed with Mccain's conceding speech. & its pretty amazing the impact of their speeches have made.. even on me! i doubt u'll ever get that in sg! but wow.. this is how u make memory-lasting speeches (eg. I have a dream...)

oh yea.. someone mentioned on the obama/biden campaign sign.. if u see it REALLY fast *obama/biden* actually looks like osama bin laden! it was an.. UHOH! moment haha.. im surprised it wasnt made out into a joke or sth..

dragged myself to watch 007. it was quite decent.. lets just say he fights/chase scene in virtually every mode possible.. ok mebbe with the exception of space and underwater oh and snowmobiles? ahah the girl is super hot! but warning* the guy doesnt get the girl *gasp!* but i actually liked it that way! i guess craig suits the all moody angtsy bond rather than brosnan's version of slick charismatic bond.

i think hardly any of u who read my blog share the same passion for football and the spanish language.. so i guess this is for my keepsake:
http://www.fernando9torres.com/index.php?p=2786

the behind the scenes footage and interviews with the team about the euro cup.. every stage of the way.. except its more of.. detras de las escenas y entrevistas con los jugadores sobre la euro copa en cada juego. yes.. i mean to say its all in spanish.. i suppose i will have to save this and wait till my spanish improves before i watch it again to see what i've missed out.. god knows how long tt will take hahaha

oh no..carol just reminded me why i love spain so much.. it might have so many flaws, quite a bit of ignorance and perhaps a fiesta lifestyle i don't really care for but a flawed history makes for quirks... which is far more interesting than i can say of ours.. the people may be deemed racist by many but I find is simply just some insensitivity issues and ignorance, which is made up by some strong family and rooted principles which is pretty amazing for a western country. n of cos.. the fashion.. the endless love for sports.. the lovely old abuelos u bump onto the streets the most romantic spanish alleys.. WHATS NOT TO LOVE!

a friend from a different country said he wanted to run.. run away from his home.. to spain.. i found it amusing tt we met each other there through the same reasons. since i came back ive been having roller coaster ride of emotions about home.. some good some bad.. yknow if spain was just next door, this would be a hell of a lot easier.

Found a little funny titbit on my shampoo bottle as I was showering today...

"I am actually very busy on a cellular level"
- hah! the perfect argument as to when I will slack in December :)
the professor has officially lost it.

and no im not talking about school. talking about ze professor.. at arsenal. yknow they say you have to support your team through thick and thin, i've mentioned before, when there are so many changes to a team each season, what makes a fan continue to support? cripes i cant rem the fallacy for this argument.

Sadly though, I believe arsenal is on their demise. which is REALLY disappointing because wenger could have COMPLETELY avoided this situation. you can already tell the disappointment in fabregas and adebayor. It's so sad because it means the definition, the characteristic of the club has to change for a revival. that would mean the end of the wenger era.. I cannot imagine who will replace him. and its extra sad because I watched fabregas since he started out... his beautiful passes, the matches that he totally owned - mostly champs league matches against Juventus, Real Madrid and most recently, AC milan. He WANTS to stay at arsenal but given the situation, its not going to happen. and i truly believe he will leave next season.. which could also mean adebayor leaving.. van persie.. and all the people who count.. The only other person I've seen work so hard all the time is clichy.. the silent hero who got a bittersweet goal today. you know whats the freaking worst part is? It's not even HALFWAY through the season! does that mean there is hope? Maybe they can pull a valencia (ie win the FA cup this year and pull it together for next year) who knows. who knows.

finally given up hope on them.. just like quite a bit of things in my life lately.. whipee
